TAP, SPDH and the baggage handling trade unions agree on revisions to the company's union agreement

TAP, SPdH and SIMA, SINTAC, SITAVA, SQAC and STHA, unions representing handling workers, reached an agreement in principle today on changes to clauses in the SPdH / Groundforce Company-Union Agreement. The agreement will now have to be submitted to a vote by workers at the various airports where the company operates, that is Lisbon, Porto and Madeira.

Revision of the agreement that has been in force up to now was considered absolutely essential to the sale of a majority stake in the capital of SPdH, a process which the TAP group has been required to undertake as a result of a decision handed down by the Portuguese Competition Authority and under the terms of Decree-Law 275/99 of 23 July, which transposes European Council Directive 96/67/EC of 15 October into Portuguese Law.

An agreement to sell a majority stake to Grupo Urbanos is still awaiting approval by the Competition Authority and the Government. Grupo Urbanos has been involved throughout the process of revising the Company-Union Agreement in an assistant capacity.

The Boards of Directors of both TAP and SPdH are to be congratulated on taking yet another critical step towards ensuring the sustainability of the leading company in handling operations in Portugal, and the Unions are to be praised for the earnest and constructive stance they have taken, all the more so in light of the difficulties that the economy in general and the air transport sector in particular are going through

TAP launches direct flights between Lisbon and Turin

From 3 June 2012 TAP will start operating four flights per week between Lisbon and Turin from 3 June 2012. Turin is the capital of the Piedmont region of Italy and is a major cultural and business centre in North East Italy. Its airport serves a region with more than 4.5 million inhabitants.
