Miami route hits 50,000 passenger mark, consolidating TAP’s position in the North Atlantic
TAP strengthened its position in the North Atlantic in June 2011 when it opened its Miami route, which will top the 50,000 passenger mark in the next few days, confirming the success of the new route.
Behind this success is stronger-than-expected demand in the United States, as traffic originating in Miami exceeds the demand originating in Europe. During the months when demand is greatest, from June through August, US demand accounted for 80 percent of the total.
During the off-peak season, TAP operates three weekly flights between Lisbon and Miami; the number increases to four in June and five in July and August.
During the peak months - June, July and August - this was the TAP route to the Americas that had the highest load factor.
