Environmentally-friendly TAP amenity kits win Gold Award

TAP's new ecological amenity bags were honoured with a Gold Award in the Best Ethically/Sustainable Amenity Kit category by Travel Plus, a prestigious online UK publication dedicated to frequent flyers.

In its new unisex amenity bags, TAP has replaced all synthetic materials with carefully selected natural products. The bags themselves as well as their content - socks, sleep masks and earplugs - are now made with 100% natural ingredients and recycled materials. The personal hygiene articles and cosmetics are completely free of sulphates, parabens, phthalates and artificial colorants and have not been tested on animals.

With the launch of the new environmentally friendly amenity kits that have been recognised with this internationally important award, TAP has further strengthened its sustainability practices, an area in which the airline is renowned worldwide.

In 2010, as you recall, TAP was recognised by UNESCO and the International Union of Geological Sciences with the 2010 IYPE Planet Earth Award in the category of "Most Innovative Sustainable Product", for the airline's pioneering achievements in its Carbon Offset Programme.

TAP prides itself on its strong commitment and performance with respect to questions of environmental responsibility. In addition to the Carbon Offset Programme mentioned above, a number of other important initiatives are underway, including in the Act Eco project, which is directed at the Portuguese public and is based on renewing the airline's commitment to protecting the environment and on mobilising and involving TAP workers in concrete actions on a daily basis.

TAP has also made significant contributions towards the preservation and rehabilitation of endangered animal species. Recent examples of this are providing transport for the return of a Kemp's ridley sea turtle to its natural habitat and the five ospreys that were flown from Helsinki to Lisbon in a TAP plane.
